East Vancouver chef, athlete, and longtime community volunteer joins Pete Fry’s Green team

VANCOUVER, B.C., August 21, 2026 — The Green Party of Vancouver has nominated Breanne Smart as a candidate for Vancouver Park Board in the October 17 municipal election, following Gabi Tremblay’s decision to step back from the campaign due to new professional commitments.

Smart is an East Vancouver parent, vegan chef and operations manager, athlete, and longtime community volunteer. Smart operated Vancouver plant-based establishments including MILA, Virtuous Pie, and To Live For Bakery. She holds a degree in biology from Queen’s University and professional experience spanning university administration, technology, and hospitality.
Smart has volunteered with organizations including Big Sisters, Looking Glass BC, and Ronald McDonald House, and served on the board of her local field hockey club. She said becoming a parent transformed the way she sees Vancouver’s parks and public spaces.

“Our family visits a park or community centre every single day, and I’ve seen firsthand how vital these spaces are for families, neighbours, and communities across Vancouver,” said Smart. “I’m running because I want to protect the Park Board and make sure these public spaces are accessible, welcoming, and ready to meet the needs of a growing city.”

Smart’s priorities include investing in aging community facilities, expanding Vancouver’s urban tree canopy and heat resilience, improving access to swimming and recreation programs, increasing public washrooms and water fountains, improving food options at Park Board facilities, and making it safer and easier to reach major parks by bicycle. She also supports maintaining an independent, democratically elected Vancouver Park Board.

Erstwhile candidate Gabi Tremblay was nominated earlier this year after putting her name forward to advocate for Vancouver’s parks, beaches, public spaces, and communities.

“We’re grateful for the time, energy and ideas she brought to our team,” added Green Party of Vancouver Executive Director Nick Poppell. “Circumstances changed, and she leaves this campaign with our full support and our sincere thanks.”
