Vancouver Greens Release 2026 Platform

The 2026 Vancouver Greens platform sets out commitments on housing affordability, climate resilience, transit improvements, community safety, and a City Hall that works for you

VANCOUVER, B.C., SEPTEMBER 29, 2026 — The Green Party of Vancouver today released its full platform for the October 17 municipal election, laying out a plan to make the city more affordable, more resilient, and more connected.

Vancouver is a city that knows change. Rapid development has brought new opportunities, along with challenges that Vancouverites feel every day. Through all of it, the spirit of this city’s people keeps us strong.

Now is the time for a city government that reflects our residents' drive to build more vibrant, liveable communities, and that grows in ways that serve the people who live here, not the interests of wealthy developers. The Vancouver Greens have a plan for sustainable growth that will make our city more affordable, our communities safer, and our economy more resilient through a government that works for you, firmly rooted in transparent decision-making and accountability for results.

Housing sits at the heart of the platform. The Greens would measure affordability against what Vancouverites actually earn, setting targets at 30 per cent of median household income instead of market rent. A new rapid acquisition fund would let the City buy at-risk rental buildings before they are lost to speculation, protecting the affordable homes Vancouver already has.

The platform treats climate change as part of daily life. During extreme heat and wildfire smoke, Vancouverites would have better access to cooling, clean air and shade, and every community would have climate-safe public spaces when extreme weather hits. The Greens would also adopt the 3-30-300 standard for a greener, cooler city: every home with a view of three trees, every neighbourhood with 30 per cent tree canopy, and every resident within 300 metres of a green space.

On transit, the Greens would work with TransLink to speed up buses and keep them on schedule through the rollout of more dedicated bus lanes. They would also push for more late-night routes and press for a firm timeline to bring rapid transit to UBC.

To improve community safety, the Greens recently unveiled CROW (Community Response Outreach Workers) Team. Available around the clock, the non-police, non-medical team would respond to non-emergency calls involving homelessness, addiction, and mental health crises through a dedicated number for neighbours and businesses, leaving police and paramedics free for emergencies.

The Greens also want to invest in the places where neighbours connect, including community centres, public festivals, open street events, and additional neighbourhood plazas. This would be done through a Festival Fund to provide consistent year-over-year funding for community events in the city.

Underpinning it all is a commitment to clearer processes and a culture at City Hall focused on solving problems for everyday Vancouverites.

The full platform covers housing, food security, transit and active transport, environmental stewardship, community safety, the economy and arts, families and schools, and good governance.
