Imtiaz Popat

Imtiaz Popat is a long-time social justice activist who helped to elect the first Green in Canada to the Vancouver Park Board over 25 years ago. He now wants to be a Green candidate for Park Board because he has a very good understanding of Park Board issues. 

Imtiaz will advocate for access and inclusion of diverse communities to parks and community centres. Imtiaz wants to work with diverse communities, including Indigenous communities, to achieve diverse programming and access to services, and help with policy development.

He won the Intercultural Trust Award from the BC government, recognizing outstanding work in building intercultural trust and understanding, and reducing racism and hate between communities.

He is also an award-winning filmmaker and has been broadcasting on community radio and television for over two decades and he is a prolific blogger on social justice issues.

Imtiaz lives in Mount Pleasant and works as a support worker in a homeless shelter in the   Downtown Eastside. He is also a cognitive behavioral and acceptance therapy practitioner and a trauma informed facilitator.
