Bring back the Stanley Park bike lane
On Monday, September 15th, Parks Board Commissioner Tom Digby is bringing forward an amendment to bring back the Stanley Park bike lane. Park Board Commissioners are voting on the new Stanley Park Mobility Study report on Monday September 15th. The report focuses on a proposal to bring TransLink bus service around Stanley Park Drive in 2027.
“We love bus service, but something is missing,” said Green Park Board Commissioner Tom Digby. “Everyone knows that buses and bikes don’t mix safely. For the safety of cyclists, active mobility and micromobility users on Stanley Park Dr., I am bringing an amendment for a permanent separated bike lane along the steepest parts of the road up and over Prospect Point hill.”

Proposed route for the permanent separated Stanley Park Bike Lane, September 2025.
The amendment harkens back to disputes at the Park Board in early 2023 when the previous temporary bike lane was removed by ABC Commissioners at a cost of $330,000. As reported by the Integrity Commissioner in February, this decision came as a result of private backroom dealings made in Mayor Ken Sim’s home.
“Commissioners have the opportunity to bring back thousands of beginner and intermediate bike riders who have been avoiding Stanley Park Drive since the temporary bike lane was unlawfully yanked over two years ago” said Digby. “My amendment will also prioritize the need for accessible parking, indigenous consultation, and for accommodating park businesses along the bike lane route.”
