Annette Reilly Wins Green Party of Vancouver Nomination for City Council By-Election

Vancouver, BC, Feb 6th 2025 – The Green Party of Vancouver is excited to announce that Annette Reilly has been nominated as the party’s candidate for the upcoming Vancouver City Council by-election. An award-winning filmmaker, advocate, and dedicated community leader, Reilly brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to the values that make Vancouver a vibrant and inclusive city.

“As a working mother and renter, I understand firsthand the challenges that so many Vancouverites face every day,” said Reilly. “From housing affordability to small business support, and safety to climate action, our city needs bold leadership that listens to communities and delivers real solutions. I am honoured to represent the Green Party of Vancouver in this by-election and fight for a future that puts people, environment, and transparency first.”

Reilly has been a passionate advocate for social justice, gender equity, and environmental sustainability. She serves on the board of the Gender Equity in Film Society and has been a long-time volunteer with the Green Party. Her acclaimed work in the film industry, including her role in Netflix’s The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and her award-winning film A Typical Fairytale, has positioned her as a leader in storytelling that drives social change.

Her personal journey as a cancer survivor has also shaped her commitment to public health advocacy. Diagnosed with Stage 3b colon cancer at the age of 30, Reilly has dedicated over a decade to supporting young adults with cancer through organizations like Young Adult Cancer Canada. After losing her sister to pancreatic cancer last year, she joined the Green Party, and  became even more determined to address the environmental causes of cancer and advocate for evidence-based policies that protect public health.

Raised in a small farming community in Alberta, the traditional lands of the Cree, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Dene, Nakota Sioux, and Métis, since 1995, Reilly comes from a family with deep roots in Canada’s agricultural history. From 1995 onwards, she has called Vancouver home, residing on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations.

“Vancouver has lost confidence in this mayor and council,” Reilly added. “We need City Councillors  that put transparency, integrity, and the needs of residents ahead of backroom  interests. I’m ready to lean into the work holding this mayor and his council majority accountable, and stand up for renters, for families, for artists, and for a greener, more affordable city.”

The Green Party of Vancouver invites residents to get involved in the by-election campaign and support Annette Reilly in her mission to bring transparency, accountability, and progressive leadership to City Hall.
