VANCOUVER ― Today marks the first day of the 23rd annual Black History Month in Canada, where we honour the contributions Black Canadians have made to our country despite the inequality, oppression, and barriers they have had, and continue to work to overcome.

"As we celebrate the achievements, people, and stories that have contributed to our country, culture, and history, we must also acknowledge injustices of the past, inadequacies of the present, and challenges that lie ahead," said Green Party Councillor Pete Fry.

The Green Party of Vancouver recognizes the need to work collaboratively to identify and rectify the systemic racism inherent in our institutions and we are committed to bringing about the change necessary to realize true equality for all.

We encourage all Vancouverites to take part in the events celebrating Black History Month taking place around our city.
