The Green Party of Vancouver believes that limits and public disclosures of contributions to political parties are important to a healthy democratic process.
The BC Local Elections Campaign Financing Act (LECFA) has no contribution limits or disclosure requirements for the operational activities of electoral organizations. We believe there is no difference between operational and campaign activities of electoral organizations. We believe the current regulations facilitate corruption and undermine the public trust of local elections in BC.
The Green Party of Vancouver has adopted a Contributions Policy which limits contributions for operational activities to the LECFA limits for campaign activities—to BC residents only to an annual maximum of $1,239.18 (for 2021); corporations, special interest groups, and non-residents are prohibited. Our policy also requires us to annually disclose significant contributors to operational activities in the same format as the LECFA requirements for campaign activities.
